It seems that not all Turians can be as smooth and suave as Garrus Vakarian ;) In both Mass Effect and ME2, Shepard encounters a turian pining after a member of another species, who don’t quite feel the same way. I thought I would dedicate a post to them just because their suffering provided me with a lot of laughs and entertainment. Really, it’s the least I could do :)
General Septimus
Poor, poor Septimus. Once a great turian general, he is now wallowing at Chora’s Den, watching asari dancers and spreading lies because he can’t be with the woman he truly loves. Shepard hears a lot about the consort, Sha’ira, many are taken with her, but none so much as Septimus it seems. While this quest isn’t action packed, Septimus can some of my favorite lines in the game, depending on who is in your squad at the time.
If Wrex is present, Septimus will paraphrase a quote from Winston Churchill: “I may be drunk, krogan, but you’re ugly. And tomorrow I’ll be sober.”
And if we are keeping a score between Ashley and Kaidan for who to choose at Virmire, this is definitely Ashley’s point:
Kaidan: “It’s hard to imagine a general getting so upset over a woman.”
Ashley: “That’s ‘cause you don’t understand women, Kaidan.”
I can imagine there are a couple of fanfics out there about Septimus and Sha’ira.
Turian at Eternity
Now, Shepard never actually talks to this turian… we don’t even know his name, but she sure gets an earful of his futile attempts to get with a recently dumped quarian. I found a video with most of the dialogue. Check it out for some laughs….
Beaten by a nerve-stimulation program… ouch.

I was a little prejudice against Nathaniel Howe when I first met him in Awakening cause, well, his dad was just such an asshole. But my characters do not kill potential companions, even Cousland was not going to execute the son of the man who killed her parents. Nathaniel was in the Free Marches during the events of Origins. It becomes clear as the Warden progresses through Awakening that Nathaniel really did not know what kind of man his father was. In many ways, as I played as Cousland, I felt like Nathaniel and I were kindred spirits. We were both fighting for the memory of our families. He and Anders quickly became regular companions. I also really enjoyed his cameo in DA2. I’m not sure if he will really have a large role in the future games, but I hope so!

There is a lot of… Let’s say, “Species Rivalry,” in the Mass Effect games. Let’s take a look at what some of the other species are saying about Turians.

I love Shale, mostly because we both share a hatred for pigeons, but also because she is hilarious and a great asset in battles. I was wary of Shale at first. I cringed at the Alistair +8 disaproval, but she is totally worth it. Most Origin players know this, but if you haven’t played or didn’t think about it: BRING SHALE TO THE DEEP ROADS. Throughout the game, each companions have their shining character moments and this is Shale’s.
SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! You find out her backstory, how she was once a dwarf and actually volunteered to become a golem. She is a conflicted character, caught between her current state and the knowledge of what she used to be and trying to somehow meld those together for what she could become. END SPOILERS!
In my opinion, Shale has some of the best party banter in Origins. If you haven’t downloaded “The Stone Prisoner,” you really should!!
